My Wishlist For Fall 2021

Fall 2021

Here are some items that I am trying to get my hands on for this coming Fall term.

1. The Burberry Westminster Trench Coat

The top item on my wishlist for this fall is the Burberry Westminster Trench Coat. I've had my eyes on this coat since last fall. This coat is light and well made. The signature Burberry gabardine material keeps the interior dry despite the rain. This coat has been used by British Army officers since the world wars. However, it soon took over the fashion world in the second half of the 20th century. It remains 'the' trench coat. There are many fits and ways to wear it. They come in three colours: honey, black, and olive. I prefer a looser fit and to tie the belt (not buckling it.) Though hard to find, you will likely find the one you are looking for at the Burberry flagship store in Regent's Street in London. That store is the largest Burberry in the world. It has seven floors! It used to be a cinema theatre, and it was carefully transformed. I tried this one on there last fall, and I am hoping to get it in time for the next one! This coat would last for years and could be turning heads anywhere from St. Andrews to London and beyond.

2. The J. Press Needlepoint Hat

Everyone is happy that J. Press is back. Everything that they sell is of great quality and timeless style. I really like their needlepoint hats. Unfortunately, they do not make any hats for British universities, so a St Andrews collegiate hat is not an option. (Yet!) Until then, I hope to get by with this hat with its unmistakable logo.

3. A Skagen Watch

When it comes to watches, I think it is easy to get carried out. Some people try to get watches that look expensive. However, unless it is legitimately a good, authentic watch, it will not look good. What I love about Skagen is that it owns its designs as stylish, cutting-edge, but above all affordable. This watch does not break the bank nor does it pretend to do so. While I prefer more intricate designs elsewhere in architecture and clothes, I favour minimalist watches. I love the tones available. They recently launched a collection in earthly tones. These watches are in the $70-200 USD range. I already have one, but I would like to get something new to rotate with the other one.

4. (More) Charles Tyrwhitt Shirts

You can never have enough. Everyone has their favourite shirts. For me, it's Charles Tyrwhitt. These fit well, feel well and look great. Normally I prefer some of their more breathable materials because I wear a lot of layers. While they usually have great online sales, I still prefer to peruse the physical store and get measured again before I buy the shirts. (I spend most of my week in them, after all.)

5. This Rowing Blazers Block Stripe Rugby Shirt

I love rugby shirts. They are like stylish sweatshirts; they keep you warm and look great. (After all, some situations call for both comfort and a collar.) Rowing Blazers is a great brand that brought together the collegiate style and the idea of a hype brand like Supreme. I like the colours of this one, in particular for the fall.

6. Bean Boots

One of the biggest regrets of my New England days is not having gotten Bean Boots. These are great for rainy, slippery settings. However, the real asset is the look. There is nothing quite like this boot (other than off-brand copies.) These are extremely durable.

7. A Letterman Jacket

Back in high school, I got a varsity letter for Wrestling. Unfortunately, the school did not do any jackets or cardigans to go along with it. We had a varsity sweater, and a separate letter to go along. I've always thought about getting this jacket and sowing my varsity letter onto it. This fall might be the time.

8. This Sky Blue Drake's Tie

Drake's has the best ties that I have ever seen (or touched) in the UK, and probably the rest of the world. Fortunately, they just released this Sky Blue tie, which happens to be St. Andrews' school colour.

9. The Montblanc Meisterstuck Black Classique Rollerball Pen

The pandemic made us informal and detached. Nothing says "back to business" like a Montblanc pen. This style is their classic. I prefer rollerball over ballpoint or the classic fountain because of my writing style. While I appreciate the versatility of Office and Google Drive to take notes, I am still old-school and like to take notes by hand too.

10. Polo Riding Boots

Polo is one of my fall sports. Unfortunately, I still have to borrow boots every time I take a lesson. It would be cool to get some of my own to improve my game this fall. There are many brands and options, but I still have not found the right fit.
